The savings account under your mattress doesn't count. If you're like a lot of other people, you think of a savings account as a place to hold on to a great deal of money. You don't likely consider that the place to start saving is with the change you accumulate every day. Why should you save pennies when you plane to save thousands of dollars? You will be surprised how easy it is to accumulate an impressive amount if you will begin saving today.
Take this simple test. Put a jar on your dresser and every day when you return from work, put all the change from your pocket or your purse in the jar. At the end of the month, count it and see how much you have saved. Neither does the savings account in your piggy bank. A savings account is not just an emergency fund, it is an excellent way to pay yourself before you pay anyone else with your hard-earned dollars. When you receive your paycheck, write a check to yourself first and then pay your monthly obligations. Instead of waiting for a great sum of money to put into the bank, begin saving little by little and watch how fast those few pennies will grow into a terrific amount of money which you saved yourself! Saving is the way to go! Time to grow up and open your own savings account.
